A Happy 20th Anniversary to Kirby, everyone’s favorite “Super Tough Pink Puff!”

I’d be ungrateful if I didn’t take a moment to reflect on one of my all-time favorite characters during his 20th anniversary. I’m a Mario fan, of course, but I have to admit that I probably look forward to the Kirby games as much as, and sometimes more, than the Super Mario Bros.titles. It’s just hard to beat Kirby’s fun factor, the copy abilities, light-hearted storytelling and the platform sensibilities. Just great stuff and I’m glad to admit I’m a huge fan (true story, even my Dad came to appreciate Kirby as I played through Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and to the point that he actually has a Kirby magnet on the refrigerator).

That, and you’ve got to respect the little guy for tearing through an entire kingdom, obliterating any enemy that stood in his way, for the simple fact that someone lifted a slice of his strawberry shortcake! A slice man! Never mind the fact that the first thing he did on that particular tear was to beat the everlovin’ snot out of King Dedede on principle, and he didn’t even do it. That’s hard core. (Ha.)

And an anniversary compilation seems a pretty good way to celebrate!

No matter what we might think about Nintendo’s future, the company’s various mascots will always have a special place in our hearts.  And who could possibly dislike Kirby, in all his marshmallowy pinkness?
To celebrate Kirby’s 20th anniversary, Nintendo announced a new Wii collection featuring various unspecificed Kirby titles.  They’re calling it “a special anniversary software disc,” which we’re just going to refer to as “a game,” for simplicity’s sake.
The collection will be out later this year, and we’ve yet to hear what games will be included in the bundle.  We’re assuming, however, that Nintendo will be dipping into their classics bin, considering the Wii has only seen two Kirby titles to date.
